July 2022 Update

August 1, 2022

This is part of a series of monthly updates I write for friends, family, and anyone else that’s interested in following along. For the previous installment, check out my June 2022 Update.

These updates have been feeling like a strange combination of founder check-ins and product changelogs for a while, and while I think both are valuable, I’m not sure they belong together. Going forward, I’m going to do the monthly update as just a changelog, then write posts about my journey as a founder as standalone pieces.

With that in mind, July saw some decently big product updates! Most notably, I launched a new backlog refinement feature that lets your team vote on whether tickets in your backlog should be closed, need updated acceptance criteria, or are high/low priority. Best of all, Teaminal can automatically pull tickets from your backlog for review, and everything integrates with Slack.

I also did quite a bit of work in other areas:

  • Retros can now be configured to be anonymous
  • Renamed “pointings” to “pokers” to be in line with the marketing site
  • Added a button to mark all notifications as read
  • I finally wrapped up work on known SAML SSO issues
  • There’s a new banner letting you know if you’re the only person on your team
  • I discovered and fixed some issues with our GitHub integration
  • Made some big UI improvements to team settings since they were getting real crowded
  • Stood up a staging environment for testing new releases

In August, I’m planning to sand down several rough edges throughout the app, add user roles, and update the marketing site to reflect the current state of the product.
